Structuring ERP fees
by: Adrian N

I've been working as an independent ERP consultant for seven years now in the UK, the US and Germany. In my experience by far the most straightforward and potentially lucrative fee model is to work on a straightforward daily rate basis i.e.: time and materials basis.

This model provides flexibility for the client but introduces the risk for the client that the cost of the assignment is open ended. It also has the advantage for the consultant of avoiding the need to define a fixed deliverables against a fixed fee, which can often be difficult to achieve in advance of the assignment. Very often, the scope and the circumstances within the client business will change during the period of the assignment.

If your client will agree to a simple time and materials billing model then you should consider keeping it simple and working on that basis.

Good luck.
